Good morning and greetings in JESUS’ wonderful name.
Tomorrow, the Lord has given me a message on the Church of Pergamos (Revelation 2:11-17), in Biblical history this Church will forever be known as the LAX Church.
Jesus began His letter to the Church of Pergamos with words of approval. He said the city of Pergamos was very wicked, so wicked in fact Jesus called it“the city where satan has his throne.” Yet He complimented the Church because it had remained loyal to Jesus, even when one of their leaders, Antipas, whom Jesus called “my faithful witness“, was martyred.
However, slowly the Church become lax. Jesus pointed this out, they had allowed satan to creep in in the form of false teachers. Jesus called them“those who teach the doctrine of Balaam”, and also there were others known as the “Nicolaitans”. These false teachers taught that it was alright to commit sexual sins and to eat food previously offered to idols. The Church had become “lax” taking on the ways of the world around them.
As a result of the Church’s new position Jesus warned them “…repent of your sin or you will suddenly be destroyed.” But to those who would listen and obey (Overcomers) He promise to “..give of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven, and I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that on one understands except the one who receives it.” Here, to them who overcome, He promises eternal life in heaven, and a “white stone” which undoubtedly is a reference to the stone given to athletes in ancient Olympian games. Such was a coveted prize won by the winner promising that he would live at public expense for the rest of his life. However, the losers in such games would have their eyes poked out with hot pokers.
Let us each one remain pure in our beliefs and actions that we too may bring honor to our Lord Jesus Christ!
